Eucharistic Exposition and Benediction

Exposition – As the presider comes to the altar to place the Blessed Sacrament in the monstrance, all kneel and sing.

O SALUTARIS

O salutaris Hostia
Quae coeli pandis ostium.
Bella premunt hostilia;
Da robur, fer auxilium.

Uni trinoque Domino
Sit sempiterna gloria:
Qui vitam sine termino,
Nobis donet in patria. Amen.

O Saving Victim opening wide
The gate of heaven to all below.
Our foes press on from every side;
Thine aid supply, Thy strength bestow.

To Thy great name be endless praise
Immortal Godhead, One in Three;
Oh, grant us endless length of days,
In our true native land with Thee. Amen.

Adoration – During the exposition there may be sacred silence, or readings, songs, and prayers to direct our worship to the Real Presence of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Benediction – At the end of exposition the presider kneels at the altar as the following is sung.

TANTUM ERGO

Tantum ergo Sacramentum
Veneremur cernui:
Et antiquum documentum
Novo cedat ritui:
Praestet fides supplementum
Sensuum defectui.

Genitori, Genitoque
Laus et jubilatio,
Salus, honor, virtus quoque
Sit et benedictio:
Procedenti ab utroque
Compar sit laudatio. Amen.

Down in adoration falling,
This great Sacrament we hail;
Over ancient forms of worship
Newer rites of grace prevail;
Faith will tell us Christ is present,
When our human senses fail.

To the everlasting Father,
And the Son who made us free,
And the Spirit, God proceeding
From them Each eternally,
Be salvation, honor, blessing,
Might and endless majesty. Amen.

Presider: You have given them bread from heaven.

All: Having within it all sweetness.

Presider:

Lord,
give to our hearts the light of faith and the fire of love,
that we may worship in spirit and in truth our God and Lord, present in this sacrament, who lives and reigns for ever and ever. All: Amen.

As the presider blesses the people with the Blessed Sacrament, they bow their heads and make the Sign of the Cross.

Reposition – As the presider replaces the Sacred Host in the tabernacle, all sing. Stand after the tabernacle is closed.

 HOLY GOD, WE PRAISE THY NAME

Holy God, we praise Thy Name!
Lord of all, we bow before thee;
All on earth Thy scepter claim,
All in heav’n above adore Thee;
Infinite Thy vast domain,
Everlasting is Thy reign.

Hark! The loud celestial hymn
Angel choirs above are raising;
Cherubim and Seraphim
In unceasing chorus praising,
Fill the heavens with sweet accord:
Holy, holy, holy Lord!
