Spiritual Reflection

April 5, 2026 ~ Solemnity of the Resurrection of the Lord ~ Year A (pdf)

If then you were raised with Christ, seek what is above,
where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.    Col 3:1

The peace of Christ comes as a result of your choosing Him. This basic choice, which is called the fundamental option, is the most important one. Is Christ really of the greatest value to you? He redeemed you on the Cross and was raised, giving you the opportunity to gain true peace and true happiness. This kind of peace evoking permanent joy is within your grasp, thanks to the sacrifice on the Cross and the Resurrection. You, however, must make a choice. You have to choose Christ with His peace by taking advantage of the fruits of the Cross and the Resurrection. This should be a process of your acceptance of Christ. He Himself helps you with this choice by taking away whatever hampers and enslaves you. He overthrows your idols. When you accept that, then this will be your choice – your declaration for peace, happiness, and freedom. It will be the choice made by your faith…

True peace is the fruit of spiritual life, the fruit of faith deepened as a result of trials. We receive this peace not at the start, but at the finish.  True peace is not so much the evidence of achievement, but the result of a choice. If there are idols in your life – attachments and enslavements that hamper you – there will be no peace. When something or someone stands between you and God, you cannot fully adhere to God through faith. Moreover, there will be no peace in you. It would be a pity for you to succumb to the suffering flowing from this…

In the end, the most important thing, the foundation of this choice, is believing in love. What does Jesus expect from me, what does He want? He wants you, by loving His will, to want what is best for you. Christ does not need anything for Himself. If He does want something from you, then it is always that which is best for you. He wants to love you and wants you to accept His desire, which is His love. You are like a small child that does not know what is good for him. A small child needs to be persuaded to study, to eat, to get dressed, because a child does not know how to love himself. It is the mom and dad who love him and care for him. A child is unable to love himself and care for himself. It is the same with us. We do not know what is good for us; we are unable to truly love ourselves. We love ourselves in a pure and unselfish way when we love His will, His love, and His concern for us.

Reference from the Catechism of the Catholic Church

651   "If Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain."521 The Resurrection above all constitutes the confirmation of all Christ's works and teachings. All truths, even those most inaccessible to human reason, find their justification if Christ by his Resurrection has given the definitive proof of his divine authority, which he had promised.

654   The Paschal mystery has two aspects: by his death, Christ liberates us from sin; by his Resurrection, he opens for us the way to a new life. This new life is above all justification that reinstates us in God's grace, "so that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life."526 Justification consists in both victory over the death caused by sin and a new participation in grace.527 It brings about filial adoption so that men become Christ's brethren, as Jesus himself called his disciples after his Resurrection: "Go and tell my brethren."528 We are brethren not by nature, but by the gift of grace, because that adoptive filiation gains us a real share in the life of the only Son, which was fully revealed in his Resurrection.

Questions for Reflection

1.       Is Christ really the greatest value to me? How do I recognize this in my choices?
2.       In my daily life, what is my attitude when I encounter inconveniences and sufferings? Do I take advantage of them or waste them?
3.       How can Mary’s faith bring me to the Resurrected Christ and be my guide towards peace and happiness?

Prayer after Sharing

Thank you, God, for allowing me to see the truth about my weaknesses and how it calls upon the abyss of your merciful Love.
